OCI 투자 연계 태양광 밸류 체인 조성

새만금경자청, 미국 투자유치 활동 전개

새만금∙군산경제자유구역청(청장 이명노∙이하 경자청)은 세계굴지의 폴리실리콘 생산 업체인 OCI(주)의 새만금산업단지 투자와 연계해 새만금에 태양광 기업 밸류 체인을 조성하기 위해 오는12일부터 14일까지 미국 LA지역에서 개최되는 ‘2010 SPI(Solar Power International) 박람회’에 참가해 투자유치 활동을 펼친다.

OCI(주)와 공동으로 참가하는 이번 SPI 박람회는 미국 태양전력협회 및 태양에너지 기업협회에서 주관하는 미국 최대 태양광에너지 전문 박람회로 지난 2004년부터 매년 개최되고 있으며, 90여개국 1,000여개 업체가 참여하고 있다.

이번 박람회에서 경자청은 별도의 홍보부스를 설치해 새만금산단 홍보와 1:1 기업상담을 진행하고, 특히 LA 및 인근의 태양광기업을 직접 방문해 SGFEZ의 사업계획을 설명하는 등 보다 구체적인 투자논의를 이끌어내 외국의 태양광 기업을 새만금에 유치함으로써 원료생산에서부터 모듈생산까지 수직계열화 체제를 구축한다는 계획이다.

경자청은 새만금산단이 위치하고 있는 군산지역에 태양전지의 핵심소재인 폴리실리콘 분야에서 세계 제2위의 생산설비를 보유한 OCI(주)가 입지해 원재료 수급이 원활하다는 장점 등을 적극 홍보해 태양광기업에 있어서 새만금∙군산이 투자적격지라는 점을 부각시킬 방침이다.

OCI(주)는 새만금산단 1공구 155만㎡(약 47만평)에 폴리실리콘과 카본 블랙 등의 공장을 건설하기 위해 2020년까지 10조원을 투자하기로 하고 지난 8월 17일 새만금경제청과 투자협약을 체결한 바 있다.
