새만금경자구역내 첫 관광호텔 들어선다!

BGH코리아 체인 호텔 -국내 10번째 베스트웨스턴 호텔

연간 50억원 경제효과, 200여명 고용창출 효과 기대

새만금군산경제자유구역청(청장 이명노∙이하 새만금경제청)은 경제자유구역내 군장국가산업단지에 세계적인 (주)BGH코리아의 체인호텔인 ‘베스트웨스턴 관광호텔’이 건립된다고 밝혔다.

이번에 건립되는 베스트웨스턴 관광호텔은 전북 최대 규모의 민자호텔로서 새만금에 들어서는 첫 번째 관광호텔이다.

(주)BGH코리아는 이번 관광호텔 건립을 위해 지난 3월 새만금경제청으로부터 사업승인을 받고, 4월 건축심의위원회를 통과했으며, 올 9월 착공해 2013년 준공할 계획이다.

베스트웨스턴 인터내셔널은 세계 80여 개국에 4,200여개 호텔과 30만여개의 객실을 보유하고 있는 세계 최대 체인 호텔브랜드로, 현재 아시아 지역을 중심으로 지속적인 서비스업을 확장하고 있어 아시아에서는 상당한 브랜드 파워를 가지고 있다.

우리나라에는 서울(6개), 인천(2개)과 구미(1개) 등에서 베스트웨스턴 프리미어와 베스트웨스턴 브랜드로 운영되고 있으며, 이번 새만금경자구역에 들어서는 호텔은 국내 10번째 베스트웨스턴 호텔이다.

이번 베스트웨스턴 관광호텔 건립은 연간 약 50억원의 경제적 효과와 200여명의 고용창출효과를 가져올 것으로 예상되며, 경제자유구역내 입주기업들의 비즈니스 활동에도 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

베스트웨스턴 관광호텔은 연회장과 수영장, 커피숍 등의 편의시설을 갖춘 수준 높은 호텔로서, 그동안 대형숙박시설의 부족으로 관광객 유치에 어려움을 겪어온 새만금 주변 및 군산지역의 숙박난 해소에도 기여할 것으로 예상된다.

또한 베스트웨스턴 관광호텔 바로 인근에는 전시, 컨벤션 기능을 갖춘 ‘새만금 종합 비즈니스센터’ 건립이 병행 추진되고 있어 새만금내 다양한 국제행사 유치가 가능해질 전망이다.

새만금경제청 관계자는 “베스트웨스턴 관광호텔 건립을 기점으로 새만금에 국제적 수준의 숙박․레저시설들이 계속 들어서게 될 것으로 전망하고 있다”며, “새만금 1000만 관광시대를 대비해 명품 관광도시로 손색없는 관광인프라를 갖추는데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 (주)BGH코리아는 2001년 법인을 설립해 세계 최대 호텔 체인 브랜드인 베스트웨스턴 인터내셔널과 국내 브랜드 개발 및 사용권에 대한 계약을 체결한 바 있다.
