군산 원도심, 상권활성화구역 지원사업 선정

군산시의 상권활성화구역(공설시장, 신영시장, 양키시장, 평화상가, 영동상가)이 중소기업청의 ‘상권활성화구역’ 지원 공모사업에 선정됨에 따라 오는 2014년까지 국비 100억원을 지원받게 됐다.

중기청은 전통시장과 인근 상권을 연계해 개발하는 상권활성화구역 지원사업 공모 결과 군산을 포함 전국 7곳을 선정했다고 밝혔다.

상권활성화 사업은 재래시장과 상점가 및 인근 상업지역 전체를 하나로 묶어(시장 + 상점가 + 인근상업지역) 체계적으로 개발·관리함으로써 소매상인 및 상점가의 상권활성화를 촉진 하기 위한 사업으로 올 해 처음 시작하는 사업이다

이번 공모 사업에 선정된 군산시 상권활성화 구역의 범위는 공설시장, 신영시장, 역전시장, 양키시장 평화상가, 영동상가, 중앙상가를 아우르고 전체 구역 면적은 120천㎡이며, 이 곳의 점포수는 800 여개에 이른다.

군산의 경우 구도심에 인접한 상권으로서 도심을 활성화시키는 디딤돌 역할에 할 것으로 기대돼 선정된 것으로 알려졌다.

이에 따라 이들 구역은 오는 8월부터 주차장 설치와 특화거리 조성 등 기반인프라 구축을 위한 국비와 지방비를 매칭(60%대40%)으로 투입할 예정이다.

또 캐릭터 및 디자인개발, 이벤트 또는 문화축제 개최 등 경영개선 사업도 함께 진행한다.

중기청 관계자는 “기존 개별시장 단위로 하는 전통시장 지원방식으로는 지역상권 활성화에 한계가 있다는 판단에 따라 지난해 ‘전통시장특별법’을 개정해 상권활성화사업의 법적근거를 마련했다”면서 “단순히 개별 시장만을 대상으로 하지 않고 인근 상권과 묶어서 지원하겠다는 것이 이번 사업의 특징인 만큼 전통시장이 주민들이 자주 찾는 '문화구역'으로 탈바꿈할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

군산시 관계자는 “이번 사업은 침체된 원도심 및 전통시장에 활력을 불어 넣어 지역경제 활성화를 도모하자는 취지”라며, “사업 추진에 따른 예산은 약 170억원(100억 국비+70억 지방비)으로 예상하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
